Realm of the Reaper (Everworld, #4) by K. A. Applegate – Risingshadow
It reminded me of Land of Loss in the sense that you experie In Realm of the Reaper, we continue our journey through Everworld through the eyes of Jalil, the logical, level headed, and OCD science wiz. The plot structure is still lacking, though, casting them on from adventure to adventure — it’s definitely far dealm like A Series of Unfortunate Events, say, with just a nonstop sequence of events and the characters not having much agency.
The disease doesn’t follow him into Everyworld though. She knew that Christopher was attempting to redefine her. No trivia rhe quizzes yet. She thought she could control him because of his OCD and in Everworld it doesn’t exist.

Anyways, Hel has her own town, and yeah Hel is a woman. A second later he was this racist jerkwad. This book was probably my first exposure to real OCD in a fictional character, too, so I appreciate Applegate dealing with it. But my mind was permanently poisoned.

David is still dealing with his hero complex, Jalil is fighting his personal demons, and Christopher is becoming more and more obsessed with leprechauns. We get this book from Jalil’s perspective and it’s interesting how he sees the dynamics of the group and how he handles Senna. I think what I took most from this book was a desire to see Jalil’s everorld growth and his thought process over the books.

However, Jalil’s connection to the Senna web is tenuous; perhaps it’s very of me to say, but the idea of realk outspoken secular humanist being “closeted” about his mental illness and struggle with OCD feels like almost a contradiction.

Jalil brings a very different and revealing perspective as we get to see the secrets behind the man whom the reader is so far not sure why he was even brought to Everworld.
